With larger TYPO3 installations, the integrated search "indexed_search" reaches its limits relatively quickly. Updating the indexes and the speed of answering search queries becomes a problem once a certain amount of data has been entered.
The additional indexing of external content is also difficult. If, for example, content from a job portal or data from an external application for managing locations and offers is output via TYPO3, two search masks are often used here for different content.
A specialized search engine such as Solr offers a convenient solution for indexing all possible content. This offers the following advantages, among others
- Fast: Even an index with many hundreds of thousands of pages (documents) delivers results of full text searches in the millisecond range.
- Freely configurable: Whether content from TYPO3, a job database, an external news feed or an application for managing sites, offers or media. All content can be managed, structured and searched in an index
- DSGVO compliant: The Solr application can be hosted on its own server, no data is shared.
- Scalable: If the number of documents and page views increases, the Solr server can be easily scaled and adapted to the growing requirements
