TYPO3 Multi-Factor Authentication

TYPO3 V11 includes 2-factor authentication in the core. This makes it easy to implement more secure authentication mechanisms for all backend logins.

Access controls that rely on only one factor (password) pose a certain security risk. Often the same passwords are used twice or more, they are changed too infrequently and are sometimes easy to guess.

To better secure access to senisble data, the so-called 2-factor authentication (2FA) can be added as another building block. The integration of 2FA is also recommended by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).

With version 11, multi-factor authentication is part of the TYPO3 core. This means that it is now easy to secure access to the TYPO3 backend with an additional factor in addition to the username/password.

In principle, all time-based methods such as Google Authenticator or Sophos Authenticator can be integrated.
