Automatic, AI-based translation processes with deepL in TYPO3

Translating TYPO3 pages is often annoying and always time-consuming. Here we show how content can be translated into almost any target language with a single click using deepL.

As a translation service, we chose deepL after extensive testing. In direct comparison with e.g. Google-Translate, the results were more convincing and closer to what we consider natural language. The process described below can also be based on Google Translate.

A page is completed. Title, abstract, keywords and various texts have been inserted into different input fields. Now the page only needs to be translated into three more languages. Here are now different possibilities: Export of all contents to have them edited by an external agency. Or the editors get access to TYPO3 and enter the translations there. Both are time-consuming, error-prone and usually expensive.

Another option is to use a translation service that automatically translates all content in seconds and inserts it correctly into the corresponding input fields. This can be implemented with an extension like wv-deepltranslate so that no special skills are needed to translate complete pages.

The following are screenshots showing the translation process of a complete page including an example text:

The result is a page that has been completely translated into another language with just a few clicks, without the editors needing to have a correspondingly deep knowledge of that language.
